Arriving the school campus for the first time was probably the greatest experience I had ever had. First, I got to see the whole campus area, but after that when I walked into the dorms, the real surprise occurred when all the other students came to welcome me and introduce themselves. I got many new friends at the first day. Later that day, although I was tired from the travelling, we had fun at the dorm, which made my first day a much better experience than I could have ever imagined.

Considering the academics, I can tell from my experience that it was something unique. Small-size classes let the students get much more help and personal teaching that fits different students better. In Pennington, a big part of the teachers live on campus or at least nearby, which gives the students a chance to know their teachers and even their families well.

I spent one of the best year of my life on those mountains, with friends I knew were friends for life. One doesn’t get opportunities like these many times in life, so if you have a chance to exceed yourself, go for it and don’t let anything slow you down!

I would recommend an exchange year to everybody. I cannot find words to describe my year and all the great experiences. During my year, I learned so many new things, things that cannot be learned anywhere else. It was also a great feeling to come back home, and think that I just spent a year abroad, and also made it back home!

At a boarding school, my son Peetu, has learned many things that he could not have learned at home. He gained independence and learned to take care of himself using a foreign language. The teachers were very positive and they gave us parents feedback often, which was very nice and helpful. At a boarding school, students have so many opportunities to experience new things, and it is up for the students how they use those opportunities. I can recommend sending their kids abroad to all parents, who want to open new doors for their kids.

When my daughter Josefiina flew overseas last fall, I was heartbroken. But right after the first week, I was certain that we had made the right decision. It’s been wonderful to follow her experience on social media; she’s been so happy. Her language skills have improved a lot, and the schools has gone well, although it is challenging. Josefiina has found the love for the game of basketball again, thanks to great coaching at a boarding school. Everything is very well, and I know that after this experience, my daughter will do well in whatever she chooses to do with her future. While I miss my daughter, I am very happy when I see the smile on her face during our video calls. Big thank you to Universal Players for making all this possible!

A young student has to be interested in the exchange year, and I encourage families to offer their youngsters a change to go abroad. An exchange year fits well for curious and open-minded students. It is unique life experience that one can’t get anywhere else. A big benefit of a boarding school option is that the overall success of the exchange year doesn’t depend on a host family. At a boarding school, there is a big community of students and schools’ adults to help and support the exchange student. Also student’s language skills improve very quickly!
